My professional background was as an Executive Assistant and Event Planner in the City of London where I worked for a number of years. A combination of wanting to leave the rat race and a hectic City working life, along with my love of keeping fit and Yoga led me to train as a Yoga Instructor.
I trained with the award winning YMCAfit, one of the UK’s leading trainers of fitness, and as recommended to me by The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs); my practical training was with Yoga Professionals. Yoga Professionals train teachers to teach yoga practices such as asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques to direct energy), meditation, kriyas (cleansing techniques), mudras (seals) and bandhas (locks) as well as introducing them to the deeper dimensions of yoga practices to include philosophy and stages of yogic development.
I started teaching Yoga in 2014 at gyms, and in 2015 I also started teaching locally at Bourne End Community Centre on Friday evenings, and at Bourne End Library on Sunday mornings. Due to demand, I decided to pack in my day job and open my own home based Yoga studio (G.M. YOGA) in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, in August 2016. The studio has since gone from strength to strength. I was awarded Yoga Instructor of the Month in April 2017 by Global Heath & Pharma Magazine, and voted by readers in the January 2020 edition of the Bucks Free Press as being in the top five best yoga studios in Buckinghamshire.
Yoga has made my life very clear and disciplined. It has taught me how to be calm, how to conserve my own energy to do the things that really matter, and not take things for granted.
My whole life has changed through teaching yoga. If I can share some of what has been shared with me, and have that affect one person I teach, that would be amazing. This is why and teach and this is my purpose.
I teach with a light-hearted manner and understand that participants may never emulate the perfect pose, due to postural reasons in their genes, however this does not mean they are not in the moment. When practicing yoga don't worry if you cannot do all of the poses - just breath and move, and pay attention to how your body feels in the moment.
I love quotes from wise men and women (past and present), and often include these words of wisdom at the end of each class. One of my many favorite quotes is by Epicurus who says " Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for".
